Things Perette Wrote
About me
- Touch History was written as an assignment for Massage Therapy 101. It was intended to help us understand ourselves and our motives as we studied to become massage therapists.
- My Sex Change (1994) documents my experience with Dr. Schrang in Neenah, Wisconsin.
- Small Pieces of Wisdom is a list of assorted small things I've figured out.
Social & Political commentaries
- The Cost of a Tree (2007) explains why I think we cut down trees unreasonably.
- The problem with the two-party system (2004) is my opinion on the problems created by the current bipolar political arrangement in America, and a change to the constitution that is necessary to fix it.
- On modern society, current events, and how The Machine runs our lives (2001-2002) is a collection of my ideas on how to get along in the world.
Other arguments
- The Problems of the Bazaar (2008) is an evaluation of the problems that open source software is encountering or creating as a result of its success.
- Evolution (2006) is my dissertation for the theory of evolution, my comments on where disbelievers usually go wrong in their understanding or attempts to disprove evolution, and a few words on spiritual matters related to the theory.
Amusing stuff
To the right: The RIT Board of Trustees gets its first look at Orac (1992).
- TRUE (2007) is the new web browser I developed.
- Nightmare (2004). I was asked to develop a form for reviewing dungeon monitors in training. After designing the form, I made this example so people could see how it would be used.
- Hiring a Roofing Contractor (2003) documents my experience dealing with the strange, often-seedy world of contractors.
- Penis Reduction spam (2003). My submission to a spam-parody contest.
- The Kinks (2002) is a logic problem. This guy at work kept giving me problems with people that were completely white-bread and *boring* - five guys going to five ivy-league colleges in five different majors, playing in five different sports and stuff like that - it was creepy, so I made one with more normal folks.
- Speaking of God (1995) exposes the weird language of the Bible for what it is— simple stories that have been given status by their verbosity. Using the techniques I've discovered, any story can be made to sound important through wordiness.
- The Weather Rant (1994)
- Chain Letter of a Different Sort (1994)
- Perette I. Barella (1994) will make sense to many fans of Mystery Science Theatre 3000, and other old 50's science fiction movies.
- Dahmer Carols (1994) are rather tasteless.
- Hellevator prayer (circa 1990) was written in my college days. This is dedicated to the psychotic lifts of Ellingson, Sol, Nathaniel Rochester, and Gleason Residence halls at RIT.
- Resistance Versus Length in a Physics Teacher (circa 1990) was written while taking Physics 3.
- The IBM Obfuscation Elimination Facility for the Replacement of the Multitasking Incandescent Illuminating Radiation Source Driven by Electromotive Force (1988)
Bitching & Rants
- Why I hate automated call routing systems (1998) starts out as a rant about call routing systems, then goes off on a philosophical `Is technology good?' tangent.
- The Tool Rant (work perpetually in progress)
